Shop Spotlight- Tags

I wanted to let everyone know about a shop I stumbled across when we visited back in October and have since ordered from again once we moved here. It can be hard to miss amongst all the sights you are taking in while walking around Centro, but you don't want to!
Tags is a shoe shop. They make custom shoes for you in various styles. They send off the orders to the local Mayan community to make! It's great that you can be a part of helping support the Mayan culture and community. They have sandals, slippers, espadrilles flats, and boots. They are very inexpensive at around 260-300 pesos per pair.
The owner speaks both Spanish and English and is very helpful. You go in and can pick from what they already have in stock or you can look through their catalog and pick your print, style, and size. It takes about a week to a week and a half to get your shoes in but it's well worth the wait! Once they come in you try them on to make sure they are a perfect fit and you are given an array of stamps to stamp into the sole of your shoe to make it even more personalized for you!
And if your shoes soles start to look a little worn after lots of use, just bring them back to the shop and they will fix them up for you for very little pesos. I was also told they can be washed in the washing machine and air-dried or dried on delicate.
I own two pairs of flats and one pair of slippers(open back). I love both styles but I will admit the open back are my favorite. It's easy just to slip them on and be out the door and the heel has a bit more cushion than the flats. We got a pair for the kids and Hubby as well and everyone loves them!
I included the link to their Facebook page and a link to their catalog so you can see the different prints available!
If you ever are in Merida, definitely get yourself a pair of unique, Mayan-made, shoes.
That's it for this little Shop Spotlight-Have a great day!
